Being Mortal is far more palatable, although now that I've read Doughty's book I can see how it doesn't cover everything. Still, I think it's an important topic, and I definitely recommend Being Mortal.Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00727226129280965650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8559247687312084765.post-36729521683794284732019-11-13T09:32:26.985-06:002019-11-13T09:32:26.985-06:00Okay, I'll say right now that I did not love t...Okay, I'll say right now that I did not love the narration for the Alvin books for many reasons. I listened to various productions, and some of the books used multiple narrators for different points of view, and it did not work well. There are a variety of accents, from "southern" to "country" to British to French to everything in between. Some of the narrators were much better than others. But I'll also be honest and say that at this point, narration style doesn't actually matter that much to me. It used to quite a bit, but now that I've listened to hundreds of audio books, the narrator's voice is almost invisible to me sometimes, and as long as I can comprehend, I tend to ignore the narrator voice and imagine everything my own way (just like reading). So anyway, don't know if that was helpful, but my guess is you'd probably be bothered by the narration, at least of the productions I listened to.Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00727226129280965650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8559247687312084765.post-24264647405382377522019-11-13T01:26:57.404-06:002019-11-13T01:26:57.404-06:00Smoke Gets In Your Eyes sounds like something I sh...Smoke Gets In Your Eyes sounds like something I should read...but that I'm way too nervous to read (too squeamish/sensitive!). I do plan on reading Being Mortal, though. And yeah, I have no idea how you're holding on to this reading pace, either!Torriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00914130332528653162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8559247687312084765.post-21108798898560078662019-11-13T00:29:11.766-06:002019-11-13T00:29:11.766-06:00How was the voice for the narration of the Alvin M...How was the voice for the narration of the Alvin Maker books? I'm currently rereading Charlaine Harris on audio, but I find myself reluctant to speed it up too much because it's so deeply set in the south that hearing people talk quickly seems wrong. It's this tension between how I like to hear things and how much hearing them talk that quickly breaks my suspension of disbelief.Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18005286623073064886noreply@blogger.com
